HELLO OCEAN

HELLO OCEAN is an educational game that allows users to explore and interact with a virtual underwater biome. 

 

You can navigate the virtual Caribbean Sea by moving a mobile device with a gyroscope in real space and experience 360 degree exploration.  

 

 

MY ROLE :

Game Designer, UX/UI Designer

 

WHAT I DID :

  • Designed game mechanics and developed them into concept documents:

    • Navigation interaction,  gyroscope game camera rotation, and picture taking mechanic

  • Outlined gameplay structure:

    • Free exploration with directed discovery stemming from quest system

  • Content and Level Design:

    • Quest system directing player discovery based on sea creature ‘fun facts’

    • Distributed sea creatures in game world

  • Conducted playtests with children in grades 3 to 5

  • Designed application UI and created assets in Photoshop

 

 

PROJECT TEAM : 

I worked with a team of six Carnegie Mellon University students from different disciplines to create this game for Mountainview Elementary over the course of 16 weeks.  Our goal was to create a game that could help elementary school students learn more about the aquatic biome, and feel excited to seek out further information outside the classroom.
